Memorabilia signed by Brett Favre, Brian Erlacher, Eli Manning and other NFL standouts will be up for bid at the Evansville Cancer Center's annual prostate cancer awareness program on Thursday, Aug. 24.
The fifth annual fundraiser, which features appearances by Hall of Fame quarterbacks Bart Starr and Len Dawson, will be held at the Evansville Marriott on U.S. 41 North. A VIP/Sponsors Reception is at 5 p.m., followed by the public program at 7.
Jon Hilbert, a former NFL kicker from Boonville, Ind., is helping the Cancer Center obtain memorabilia for a silent auction, including items signed by Favre, Erlacher and Manning, plus Bill Parcells, Tom Brady and Carson Palmer, among others.
"I'm also hoping to get team-signed items from the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals," said Hilbert, who lives in Louisville and works for a company that lines up former players and coaches for speaking engagements and other appearances. "We'll have some good stuff."
Proceeds from the silent auction benefit Cancer Care Options, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that purchases medications for people in the Tri-State with cancer who cannot afford to buy them. Tickets to the YIP/Sponsors Reception cost $100. The price includes one autograph each from Starr and Dawson, who were the starting quarterbacks in the first Super Bowl. A ticket for an additional pair of signatures costs $50.
Everyone who attends the public program will have a chance to win footballs signed by Starr and Dawson. Tickets cost $5.
Tickets are available at the Evansville Cancer Center, 700 N. Burkhardt Road, at the American Cancer Society, 1510 w: Franklin St., or by phone at (812) 473-8797.
