Starr, Dawson headline event
August 24, 2006 - From Courier & Press staff reports
Hall of Fame quarterbacks Bart Starr and Len Dawson won't be the only big-name athletes lending a hand to "Men's Night Out," the Evansville Cancer Center's prostate awareness program tonight.
The fifth annual event at the Evansville Marriott also will include an auction of items autographed by Brett Favre, Stan Musial, Yogi Berra, Bob Griese, Jim Brown, Elton John and other celebrities.
Starr and Dawson, opposing quarterbacks in Super Bowl I, will speak during the program, which starts at 7 in the Grand Ballroom of the hotel. Tickets cost $5. At the same time, over 100 items will be up for bid in a silent auction that's scheduled to run from 4:30 until about 9 in the atrium area.
You don't have to attend the program to bid on the auction items, which will also include memorabilia signed by Rex Grossman, Brian Urlacher, Don Mattingly, Carson Palmer, Mike Alstott, David Akers and the group Aerosmith, among others.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Cancer Care Options, Inc., the not-for-profit organization that provides help to people with cancer who cannot afford to buy their medications.
